We size the Balance Harness® based on your dog’s girth measurement — that's the measurement around the widest part of their rib cage — for a more personalized and accurate fit.
How to Measure:
- Measure 2–3 inches behind your dog’s front legs (around the widest part of their chest).
- Compare your measurement to our Balance Harness® Sizing Chart.
- Or our Reflective Balance Harness Sizing Chart
If you had trouble finding it earlier, don’t worry — you can always find the sizing chart linked here and on every Balance Harness® product page.
Choosing Between Sizes:
- If your dog is still growing (under 2 years old): Choose the larger size to allow room for growth.
- If your dog is fully grown: Select the size that offers the most room for adjustment for the best custom fit.
Example:
If your dog’s girth is 24 inches:
- A Small size allows just 1.5" of expansion (could be tight).
- A Medium size can tighten 3" smaller — offering a better adjustable range.
- A Medium/Large may be too loose unless your dog is much bigger.
Quick Tip:
For dogs over 50lbs or strong pullers, we recommend the Medium/Large — the wider webbing distributes pressure more comfortably.
Puppy Sizing Advice:
- Puppies 8–12lbs at pick-up usually fit into an Extra Small.
- Puppies 12–25lbs usually start in a Small.
- Expect your puppy to outgrow their first harness — that’s normal! Most pups transition from their first harness straight into their lifetime fit (often skipping a size).
